Off to the races after what seemed like an interminable off season, but was filled with so much behind-the-scenes work by our dedicated volunteers. Re-profile the track, add presentation mounds, paint the walls, remove the fencing around the light towers and add turf, remove the grandstands in preparation for their replacement by Cairns Regional Council-donated grandstands ex Barlow Park, the list of things that got done would astonish you.
Main event for the weekend is the Northern Nationals, for the Modified Sedans. Cars from all over, including the Australian Champion, Nathan Macdonald. Lots of entries in the other classes as well, and we didn't think we would get through the whole program. We did that, and even included an unplanned interval. Very few stoppages and it all went to plan.
But...
I wasn't feeling at all well by the end of Friday night; a check on Saturday showed positive to Covid and I felt like I'd been run over by several trucks. So no photos from me for night 2, unfortunately.
